In Genesis 4, verses 1-9, it describes how Cain and Abel made offerings to the Lord. Abel’s offering was acceptable where Cain’s offering was not. Cain, being full of anger towards God, kills his brother, Abel. God asked Cain where Abel was. Cain then asked God, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
In Matthew 8 verses 1-4, it describes how Jesus saw a man with leprosy. Jesus had compassion on him and healed the man. What if Jesus had not healed the man? What if Jesus just turned and walked away? I am glad that I serve a living Savior who is full of forgiveness, compassion and love.
What would you do if you saw a stranger in need? Do you know of a person who was in need? Would you be your brother’s or sister’s keeper? 1 John 3:17 says, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” Remember, the life you live is all about Jesus and demonstrating love just as He showed love and compassion.
Even at the beginning of time, the Lord knew we would need a Savior. What if Jesus would have said no to sacrificing His life for you and me? Would Jesus have been His brother’s keeper?
When we proclaim to be followers of Christ and to have the love that Christ has for us, we will be our brother’s keeper.
Search myself and go deeper: Am I demonstrating the true love of Christ? What can I do today to show anyone I know or meet that I am my brother’s or sister’s keeper?
