To be hungry is to crave something to fill yourself. Of course, all of us have been hungry for food. Some of us are hungry for attention, for money, for love, or for the things of this world. But on today, I want to know are you hungry for Jesus?
There are 2 main ways for us to know if we hunger for Jesus. One way to hunger for Him will mean that you desire to know more about Him. Some of those actions may include but aren’t limited to studying the Word of God, attending bible class, or going to church. So, what does being hungry for Jesus look like? Well, in Matthew 5:6 it tells us, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” This verse means that when you and I hungry for righteousness, we are desiring God’s Word to take first place in our lives.
The last way for us to hunger for Christ is to have the right kind of zeal or devotion to God. Talking about the people of Israel, Paul said in Romans 10:2-3, “I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law.” We too, are just like the Children of Israel; we have had misdirected zeal.
All is not lost. You and I can pray today for a desire and for a pure devotion to God. Then we can trust the Holy Spirit to get us on the right path.
Remember, when you and I are hungry for Jesus, we will approach the throne of God like a broken vessel only to be filled by Christ Jesus.
