There is a familiar story in Luke 17:11-19. As Jesus is on his way to Jerusalem, he is stopped by ten lepers who were standing in the distance. At this time, there was no known cure for leprosy. Anyone who was infected by this disease was an outcast and did not live in a village. In verse 13, the lepers cry out to Jesus saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” I know all of us at one time or another have cried out and pleaded for Jesus to have mercy on us and our situation. In verses 14-16, it gives us an example of the compassion of Jesus because as they went in obedience, they were healed. However, one of the lepers realized he was healed and went back to Jesus. Verses 17-19 reveals their conversation. It says, “Jesus asked, ‘Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?’ and Jesus said to the man, ‘Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.’”
We can take a lesson on gratefulness and obedience from this one leper. This message about the ten lepers not only demonstrated what will happen when we are obedient, but we will be able to praise God regardless of the outcome. Our encouragement today is when you and I are obedient to God’s Word, we will find deliverance. As you go, you will find your healing. As you go, you will find the strength you need. When you move in the direction that Jesus has instructed you, He will do what He has promised. The answer you and I are looking for will be found “As You Go”!
I think this also teaches patience! Just be patient because you’ll find what you need as you go.
