As I read Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me”, I was reminded that God is always with us. This promise is echoed in Hebrews 13:5 that says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Immediately the Holy Spirit was asking me, “But what more? What more do you want from Me? I’m already in you. Do you need new signs or wonders? What more than what I’ve already promised?” Maybe you’ve asked these same questions. It’s easy to crave visible signs or fresh words, but God has already given us everything we need through His Word, presence, and promises.
We often struggle to believe God is enough because we focus on immediate circumstances or tangible things, rather than trusting in His eternal promises. When faced with hardship, it’s tempting to seek material things or signs, but true faith requires trusting in God’s sufficiency beyond what we see or feel.
In Matthew 12:39, Jesus warns that a generation seeking signs will receive none except the sign of Jonah, referring to His death, burial, and resurrection—the ultimate demonstration of God’s love and power. (“He answered, ‘A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.'”)
God’s promise to never leave us, His provision for life, and His presence are enough. As 2 Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness”. We need nothing more than God’s faithfulness and His Word. Let’s rest in the sufficiency of His promises.
