The definition of evidence means the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. We have historical manuscripts, artifacts, prophecies fulfilled, and other historical data confirming events in the Bible.
Even when Jesus died, He had to provide evidence that He had risen. We can look at the well-known narrative of Thomas and Jesus. Thomas speaks in John 20:25 saying, “‘Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.’” Thomas was saying to the disciples, “Can You Provide Evidence?” Then in John 20:26-29, the evidence is provided. It says, “Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!’ ‘My Lord and my God!’ Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.’”
So, what about you? Can you provide evidence that you are a Christian, a Christ follower, a believer? If so, are you loving? Because 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 says, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.” Do you forgive like Jesus? Ephesians 4:32 tells us, “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
At the end of the day, you and I must give people more than lip service. We must demonstrate the evidence that we are believers and followers of Jesus by living out what the Word of God says so “Can You Provide Evidence?”!
