The word “one” can be described as the lowest number, a single unit or individual. When some of us think about this word, we may think of loneliness or single. Others may say two is better than one. None of us desire to go places by ourselves or to live this life alone. But there is power in just one. So, I encourage you today to “Do It for the One”.
“Do It for the One” who may be lost and in darkness. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus reminds us of this very thing. He says, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
“Do It for the One” because your life is not about you. You and I are commanded to be Christ like. This means we are to love like Jesus, forgive like Jesus, and live like Him. Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us, “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” If you and I “Do It for the One” there is no room for us to be selfish.
“Do It for the One” and show love with God’s truth. I do not know where the Church has gotten this concept wrong. We have become timid and cowardly when it comes to God’s standards. If you see someone is about to get hit by a car, you will scream at them to get their attention. However, when we know Christians are not living by God’s standards, we remain silent. Paul wanted us to demonstrate Christ’s love and “Do It for the One”. Ephesians 4:15-16 says, “Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”
When you and I “Do It for the One”, God will be glorified, and He will draw all men to himself.
Search yourself and go deeper:
- How can I demonstrate this thought, “Do It for the One”, and show the love of Christ?
- When I serve or do good deeds, do I crave the crowd and the accolades of men?
“Do It for the One” Prayer:
Most Gracious, Heavenly Father, I repent of the sin of selfishness. I acknowledge Lord, that I don’t think of serving others. If I am honest, I want the praise. I want people to look at me and all the things I have done. Jesus, you are not pleased. Lord, forgive me for being puffed up and for wanting your glory that only you deserve. Lord, shift my mind away from me so I can serve and “Do It for the One”. Jesus, remind me that you will not share your glory with me or with anyone else as you said in Isaiah 42:8. Jesus, show me how to serve like you…willingly, generously, and lovingly. In Jesus name. Amen.
