Having spiritual eyes allows the believer to perceive the truths that God offers beyond our physical sight. The enemy of our souls, yes, the devil, the deceiver, the evil one desires for each of us to be swayed by this cold evil world. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can have a divine perspective where we can better understand His will and embrace the path He has set before us.
On this Wisdom Wednesday, I want us to look closely at Isaiah chapter 41 focusing on verse 10. In Isaiah Chapter 41, God reassures Israel of His support, promising to strengthen and help them while urging them not to fear. He contrasts the weakness of idols with His own power and faithfulness, declaring Himself as the true God and protector of His people.
Verse 10 in the ESV translation says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
When we break down verse 10, the question on the floor is “Do We See?” It says, “Fear not, for I am with you”. God addresses our human experiences with fear. He does not deny this fact (that we have fear), but God is offering us another option that is better than fear. He offers us His presence as reassurance. By not fearing, we demonstrate our trust in God even during unreliable times.
Verse 10 continues with “Be not dismayed, for I am your God”. “Be not dismayed” means not to be discouraged by difficulties, but to stay calm and confident, trusting in God’s strength and guidance.God is also identifying Himself as the personal God of the Israelites, emphasizing His relationship with them. For the New Testament believer, God is recognized as our Redeemer who offers salvation and eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as described in Ephesians chapter 1 verse 7. (In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7)
“I will strengthen you”. How many of us need God’s daily strength? This promise reflects God’s support during moments of weakness or difficulty. We must lean into what is available to us because we can only overcome life’s obstacles with God’s power and grace.
Then verse 10 continues by saying, “I will help you”. Lord! Yes! God’s reassurance that He will help us is a reliable promise. God’s promise to help us shows that He is not passive but actively involved in offering us help.
Finally, this verse ends by saying, “I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. This symbolizes God’s divine protection, justice, and integrity. Regardless of financial troubles, misunderstandings, or personal struggles, God upholds us with His righteous right hand, offering divine strength and mercy.
