We cannot allow the cares of this world with its twists and turns to cause us to become bitter in the process. Just recently I found myself feeling some type of way after a very frustrating situation. Once it was over, I couldn’t even be happy about it. Somehow, I had allowed the situation to rob me of my joy and thankfulness. I was relieved that the process had finally concluded, although my demeanor I displayed was unacceptable. It was in that moment that the Holy Spirit reminded me not to become bitter because of this process. It is my desire to encourage you that despite the challenges you may face, it is essential to protect your heart from nurturing resentment, thus avoiding becoming bitter.
God’s Word warns us that bitterness is a sin. Ephesians 4:31 tells us to, “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.” The root of bitterness has a way of robbing us of our joy as a believer in Jesus. Bitterness has a profound impact not only on us, but also on those in our immediate surroundings.
While you and I are in this process called life, we must remain prayerful, allow God to examine our hearts, and be thankful while we are facing trials and tribulations. We do not want bitterness to blind us of God’s provision or to suffocate our thankfulness to God. Therefore, always keep in mind the importance of not allowing bitterness to consume you.
