The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Webster describes the word “wallow” as to roll about or lie relaxed; to become or remain helpless. When I hear the word, “wallow”, I immediately think about a pig rolling around in the mud.

A lot of times we are like that pig when we sin. We will wallow in discouragement, guilt, shame and condemnation. But thank God for Jesus who knew our frailties.

For the discourager the word of God proclaims in Psalms 3:3, “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.” If Jesus lifts you up, “Don’t Wallow in the Mud!”

For the guilty, the word of God declares in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” If Jesus forgives you, forgive yourself and “Don’t Wallow in the Mud!”

The Holy Spirit convicts us in our heart while Satan condemns us in our mind. Remember that our daily victory is not in the dos or don’ts, but it is in us surrendering. For I am reminded that Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” The Spirit is working in us, and He is enabling us to be, to live, to hide and to abide in Jesus Christ…so get up and “Don’t Wallow in the Mud!”

“Don’t Wallow in the Mud!” Prayer: Most gracious, heavenly Father, I come to You once again with the stain and heartbreak of my sin. Lord God, I acknowledge _________ as sin. It is sin because You say it is sin. Lord, forgive me. I turn away from it. Lord, help me to live for you. Help me to obey the warnings of the Holy Spirit before I decide to do my own thing. Lord, I know without the Holy Spirit helping me, I have no strength. Create in me a clean heart, Lord (Psalm 51:10). Lord God, I look to You to help me. I look to You to keep me. I look to You to do what only You can do….heal, deliver, and set me free! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

“Don’t Wallow in the Mud!” Action Plan:

  1. Surrender the sin to Jesus
  2. Find scriptures to help you with the particular sin/disobedience
  3. Pray and fast
  4. Repeat until you see deliverance in this area
