One of the characteristics of a follower of Christ is faith. Hebrews 11:1 describes faith as, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” This thing called faith is powerful and sets apart the weak from the strong. Many of us believe that when we sit in a chair, it will hold us up. However, many people do not believe that Jesus is the son of God. Hebrews 11:6 further explains faith by saying, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Today is the day that you need to decide if you will have faith in Jesus and “Drop Your Net”.
The words, “Drop Your Net” was a command that Jesus made to his first disciples in Luke 5 verse 4. It says, “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’” Now we must understand something about Simon, James and John. They were experienced fishermen. This was their livelihood. They were experts at this. So, they responded like we oftentimes will respond by questioning Jesus. Verse 5 says, “Simon answered, ‘Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.’”
“Drop Your Net” and obey. When we obey the voice of the Lord, we are demonstrating our love for Jesus. Luke 5:6 says, “When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.” Your obedience will not only please God but it will bless you.
“Drop Your Net” and grow your faith. Once we have history with God and can testify to what He has done, this increases our faith in Him. Luke 1:37 reminds us, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
“Drop Your Net” and believe. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” As a Christian, there will be a lot of things that may not sound logical. There will be times that we do not understand what God is doing. It was not logical for the children of Isreal to move forward toward the Red Sea. But, it is at those times that God does His best work.
At the end of day, you and I must believe Jesus over what we think, our experiences, or our past. Jesus has proven that you can have faith in Him due to the many blessings you have already experienced. Through your faith, Jesus will restore you and make all things new. So, trust his word and his plan and “Drop Your Net”.
