The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Imagine walking into a dimly lit room, the air filled with an aroma so powerful it stops you in your tracks. A woman kneels in the center, holding a small alabaster jar, her most valuable possession. Without hesitation, she breaks it open, pouring its contents out—an offering so extravagant, it shocks everyone. But she doesn’t care about the whispers. Her heart is set on one thing: honoring Jesus. Your life, heart, and desires are like that alabaster jar—precious and deeply personal. But the question is: are you willing to empty it all for Jesus?

Mary’s act of pouring expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet, worth a year’s wages, was a reflection of her heart. Breaking the jar symbolized her surrender of everything at His feet, pointing to His ultimate sacrifice. “But Jesus said, ‘Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of My burial.’” (John 12:7) Like Mary’s perfume, your life is valuable, but its true significance is found in surrendering it to Jesus. I am all about how I live out this concept. Well, first we can prioritize loving others as Jesus did. “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.” (John 13:34) With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can surrender our plans daily allowing God to work through us. Paul said in Romans 12:1, “Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice.”

Today, break open the bottle of your heart, life, and desires. Pour it all out for Jesus, trusting that what you give to Him will never be wasted.
