In Philippians chapter 3 verses 7 to 10, the Apostle Paul reflects on the value of his former achievements and status, stating that he considers them as loss compared to knowing Christ. He emphasizes that true righteousness comes from faith in Christ, not from the law. Paul expresses his desire to know Christ deeply, to experience the power of His resurrection, and to share in His sufferings, aiming to be conformed to His death. These verses highlight the transformative power of faith and the priority of a personal relationship with Jesus over worldly gains. (7 But whatever things were gain to me, these things I have counted as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. Philippians 3:7-10)
When I think about who or what could compare to Jesus, I can’t help but to think about the love of Jesus. You and I know too well that no one can love you like Jesus. This is why I cling to Psalm 63:3 that reminds us, “Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You.” David expresses that God’s steadfast love is more valuable than life itself, leading to a commitment to praise Him. Whatever you are thinking about right now that may have earthly value, I can trump that with Jesus.
Philippians 3 and Psalm 63 remind us that knowing the eternal Christ and experiencing His love are the true treasures, far surpassing the empty illusions, false promises of this world.
