The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

The definition of a valley is a long, narrow region of low land between ranges of mountains, hills, or other high areas, often having a river or stream running along the bottom. Many times, we describe our difficult experiences as valleys. They are the lowest points in our lives where the hills and mountains that surround us seem to overshadow our lives. However, my experience has taught me that “Even in the Valley” God perfects, chastens, and builds a new you if the lesson is learned.

“Even in the Valley” there is pain. This is indeed a reality. Change hurts. Denying yourself is painful and sometimes embarrassing. At times, your valley experiences must include pain. But Psalm 34:17-19 encourages us with, “The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time.”

“Even in the Valley” the Fruit of Spirit is practiced. When you are in the valley, it is the perfect time for the Holy Spirit to perform a great work in us and through us. Galatians 5:22-25 says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

“Even in the Valley” there is strength. If we are honest with ourselves and others, we really need God’s strength in the valley. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Remember, you and I must shift our perspective of our valley experiences. We need to see our experiences not only as God allowed, but why am I here. Though “Even in the Valley”, it may not feel good or look good, but everything is all good because God is there!

Search yourself and go deeper:

Action Plan:

1. Read Galatians 5.

2. Pray and mediate on the Fruit of the Spirit.

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to grow in the area or areas He reveals to you.
