When you are driving there are signs and laws for us to adhere to. There is an unspoken, not written rule that says, “If a person comes to a four-way stop first, give them the opportunity to proceed first.” In other words, give them the right of way.
In our Christian lives we should daily give Jesus the right-away. Our lives should demonstrate a life bent to surrender, yielding to the Spirit. John 3 verse 30 says, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
In order for us to die daily to ourselves so Christ can reign fully in our lives, we must “Give Jesus the Right of Way”. This can be simply demonstrated like this: You just received some horrible news. You begin to immediately think the worst. Anxiety is increasing. You stop and don’t move because the Spirit has an opportunity to download John 14:27. It says, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” Another demonstration of “Give Jesus the Right of Way” may look like this: Instead of you giving someone a piece of your mind or telling them how you really feel about them, you live out Romans 12:18. It reminds us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
So, the next time you are faced with a difficult decision, a sticky and uncomfortable situation, or if someone has said or done something hurtful to you-don’t move but simply “Give Jesus the Right of Way”.
