The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Fear has a way of keeping us stuck, convincing us that we are not enough. When God called me to start a YouTube channel, I was terrified. I’ve always been more comfortable behind the scenes, and the idea of speaking publicly felt overwhelming. Every insecurity screamed at me to quit before I even began. But God knew exactly what He was doing when He gave me the gift of encouragement. Even though I still battle fear, I refuse to let it win. I’ve learned that obedience doesn’t mean waiting until I feel brave—it means trusting God enough to step out even when I’m trembling inside. And every time I do, I see His strength carrying me, proving that His perfect love truly casts out fear.

God’s love is not just a feeling—it’s a powerful force that drives out fear. 1 John 4:18 proclaims, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” In the context of 1 John, the apostle is teaching the early church that perfect love—God’s love—perfects believers, bringing them into a place of complete security and confidence in Christ. The culture of the time was marked by insecurity and fear of punishment, especially in light of Roman persecution and the prevailing pagan practices. People feared judgment, and their hope was often tied to uncertain circumstances. However, John contrasts that with the love of God, which is unconditional, sacrificial, and perfect.

This passage reveals the sufficiency of God’s love in Christ. Fear, especially fear of judgment, has no power over those rooted in His love. Jesus’ sacrifice frees us from condemnation, bringing us security in His righteousness. In a world filled with uncertainty—rising food prices, economic struggles, government mistrust, wars, and unrest—it’s natural for fear to creep in. Yet, we can depend on God’s love to steady our hearts and calm our fears. By seeking His love daily through prayer, His Word, and the Holy Spirit, we allow it to replace fear with peace, boldness, and confidence to walk in His calling. The more we embrace His love, the more fear loses its grip, and we live in the freedom Christ has provided.
