The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

I love how Psalm 105 celebrates God’s faithfulness and mighty deeds throughout history. When we look in the Old Testament, it recounts how God fulfilled His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In Genesis 22, God reaffirmed His promise to bless Abraham and his descendants after Abraham’s act of faith and obedience in nearly sacrificing Isaac. (By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” Genesis 22:16-18)

Then God assured Isaac of His blessing and the continuation of the covenant made with Abraham, providing for him during a time of famine as described in Genesis chapter 26 verses 3 and 4. (“Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you, for to you and to your offspring I will give all these lands and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father. I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 26:3-4)

In Genesis chapter 28, God satisfied Jacob in a vision, ensuring him of His presence and commitment to fulfill His covenant.  (“And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, ‘I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south. And in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.’” Genesis 28:13-15)

From the beginning, God’s plan has been to have a close relationship with us, fulfilling our needs as our Father, guiding us, and providing steadfast love and support. This is why Jesus, as stated in John 6:35, is the ultimate source for satisfying our deepest needs. (“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35)

Remember, God has always wanted to be our everything. I encourage you to turn to the One who can truly satisfy all your needs.
