One of the biblical definitions for the word “hear” is to attend; to listen; to obey. The biblical definition for “move” is to cause to act or determine. Both words involve an action. You and I must participate. For those of us who are believers, we must be on fire to hear God’s word then move in response to it. For the unbeliever, when you hear the Good News of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will move on your heart and in your mind. On today, I encourage you to “Hear Then Move” according to what the Spirit says.
“Hear Then Move” with faith. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us, “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”
“Hear Then Move” towards obedience. James 1:22-25 says, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.”
“Hear Then Move” with confidence that God’s word is true. Hebrews 10:35 encourages us by saying, “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.” You and I must believe that God and His Word can be trusted…. check His track record!!!
When you and I “Hear Then Move”, we are exhibiting John 20:29-31. Chapter 20 describes Jesus’ resurrection and when he showed himself to his disciples. Of course, to their amazement, Jesus was alive. Toward the end of the chapter, Jesus points out Thomas and says, “Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.’” On today, let us “Hear Then Move” just like Jesus.
Search yourself and go deeper:
- If I examine my life today, do I exhibit a “Hear Then Move” lifestyle?
- If not, what is holding me back?
- If faith, lack of obedience, sins, fear, and/or trust are holding me back, pray about it…
Most Gracious, Heavenly Father, I repent of my disobedience of hearing you speak but I do not move in obedience. Lord, if I am afraid, help me. If I have unconfessed sins, I acknowledge them and repent of them. If there is any lack of faith or trust, help me. Jesus, I am coming to you because I desire to have a “Hear Then Move” lifestyle. I am looking to you to strengthen me. I am ready to “Hear Then Move”. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
