As I was listening to CeCe Winans’ song, “Alabaster Box”, the tears began to flow. I couldn’t help but to remember my past, my sins, and how Jesus rescued me. Each of us are born into this world not knowing who or what Jesus is all about. Some of us live our lives like everything is about us. So many times, you and I are so wrong about a lot of things! We are so caught up in our own selfish lives that we think we are ok. We think we don’t need anything, or anyone let alone a Savior.
If you read the story in Luke 7:36-50, there is a woman who comes and begins to anoint Jesus with expensive perfume from her alabaster jar (see verse 37). As this woman is weeping and wiping Jesus’ feet with her hair, the people around her began talking (see verse 39). Could you imagine being that woman?
Well, “I Am That Woman!” What do you mean, Monica? I am just like this sinful, immoral woman. This woman in Luke recognized who Jesus was. It didn’t stop her from entering a house where she was not invited. It didn’t stop her from worshipping Him. Her status of being a sinner didn’t hinder her from anointing Jesus’ feet. I, too, have been in situations where I wasn’t invited. I, too, have been talked about when my business was circling in the church or on my job. I, too, had to live in a place that brought me shame and was a constant reminder of my sins. But, let me encourage you today, that Jesus can forgive. He can redeem you and me. He is well able to love the embarrassment and shame away.
“I Am That Woman!” because my sins are many just like this woman in Luke. Jesus said it best in verse 47 in the New Living Translation: “…. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Since I had much to be forgiven, I love Jesus just that much because “I Am That Woman!”
