Have you ever experienced something in your life and you said to yourself, “I don’t like that!”? Well, if you are honest, there are some characteristics about ourselves that we don’t like. Maybe you don’t like that you are hot tempered. Maybe you cater to people to much. Maybe you don’t like how you let people take advantage of you. You might even allow people and circumstances to affect you negatively. Just maybe, you are like the children of Israel, you continue going around the same mountain because of your bad choices.
Well today, I do not have a magic wand or remedy for this problem. I do not have a 3 step program or plan for you to live your best life now. But what I do offer is God’s word.
David reminds us in Psalms 139 that we can ask the Lord to search us. If He finds anything in us that should not be there, we can make the request to Him to remove it. If there is anything in you or in your life that you do not like and you know it is not Christ-like, ask God to search you and remove it.
Paul encourages us in Romans 12 to not be conformed or fashioned to this world. He is telling us do not act and react like the world. Even when people do not understand you or think you need to do this or do that, you must be Christ-like. He continues to tell us that we need to be transformed/changed by renewing our minds.
Your transformation will take work. You must be deliberate about wanting to change. It will require you to pray, maybe even fast, read God’s word and of course be placed in situations that test your character. If you are tired of your character flaws, do more than say, “I don’t like that!” Ask the Holy Spirit to change you and be ready to be made new.
“I Don’t Like That!” Confession: Lord Jesus, I recognize that there are some characteristics in myself that I don’t like. There are some things that are in me that are not Christ-like and pleasing to you. My attitude needs to be changed. My heart needs changing. My mind set needs to be changed. I need a total makeover! In the name of Jesus, I ask you to search me today. Since I have admitted that there are things in me that I don’t like, Jesus, please remove them. Fill them, Lord, with your ways, your heart, your attitude and your mind. Jesus, I forgive myself for not getting it right. I surrender to you so that you can have full control over my life. Change me to be like you, Jesus. In Your name I pray, amen.
