The word connect is a verb, an action. It means to bring together or into contact so that a real or notional link is established. So, what has connected you? Is it your past? A relationship? Your sins? A job? Maybe your accomplishments? Well, not only will these connections carry us so far, but do they benefit us? They were never meant to be lasting or of heavenly value. In order to be connected to something real and authentic, you and I must be connected to Jesus.
The familiar scripture of John 15 is where Jesus is preaching to his disciples. He uses a metaphor of a vine and its branches to explain how believing in him will bear the fruits of a Godly life. Jesus knew that the only way we can be reconciled with the Father is to have a true connection with the Son. John 15:1-2 says, “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.” So, my question to you is are you connected to the vine?
We were created to be in communion with God. As believers in Jesus, we should live for Him and not for ourselves. This is why John 15 verse 4 says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” I’m so glad that “I’m Connected” to the vine.
Finally, the only way for us to produce good fruit is to be connected to Jesus. John 15 verse 5 reminds us, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” The finished work of Jesus gives us all access to everything that the Word of God says you and I can have. So, stay connected!
