Fire is a noun that can be defined as combustion or burning. We are all familiar with fire. Fire can be viewed as intense heat, dangerous, and deadly. When we were all young, our parents would warn us about not touching the stove because it was hot. Anything that touches fire can change its form. This is also true when you think about Jesus and the battles we face. When we encounter trials and tribulations, it is “In the Fire” where you and I are transformed.
Because of our human nature, we do not want to suffer. You and I are not first in line to volunteer for “In the Fire” hardships. However, 2 Timothy 2:3 reminds us, “You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” On today, I want to remind you that when you surrendered your life to Jesus, you died to your will. As we continue life’s journey, it is critical for us to remember that it is “In the Fire” of our trials and tribulations that you and I are transformed.
When you and I face the difficulties in this world, we must remember that we have a valuable gift available to us. We have God’s grace! Paul faced a thorn of some kind. Whatever this was, it afflicted him. The Bible tells us that he talked to the Lord about it three times. Then in 2 Corinthians 12:9 the Lord responds. It says, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” You see, Paul was facing an “In the Fire” moment. Though this problem did not feel good, and God did not remove it, God gave Paul what was needed in that time-GRACE!
As Christians, you and I will go through some hard life lessons. Some of your trials that you may face might be disappointments from family and friends, an end of a relationship, sickness, death, or some other kind of unimaginable pain. It is hard for us to see the good while we’re dealing with hurt and anguish. Romans 8:28 must be our go to scripture when we may not fully understand why our lives have taken a wrong turn. We too must believe, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
For us to be conformed to be more like Christ, it is “In the Fire” where you and I are transformed into His image!
