The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

When a tragedy occurs, what do you do? React, Wait or Pray? When a situation happens and you do not know what to do, what do you do? React, Wait or Pray? When someone on your job pushes your buttons, what do you? React, Wait or Pray? When you are feeling overwhelmed and full of anxiety, what do you do? React, Wait or Pray?

Well, many or all of us at one time REACTED! We either did or said something without consulting God first. We must learn to Wait on the Lord and Pray for His direction, His leading and His deliverance. A good example of waiting and praying is King Jehoshaphat. In 2 Chronicles 20:1-12, it describes the event where 3 different groups of people were trying to make war against God’s people. When King Jehoshaphat heard about this, he was alarmed. He was fearful. So what did King Jehoshaphat do, REACTED OR WAITED OR PRAYED? In verse 3 it tells us that King Jehoshaphat set himself to seek the Lord.

We must stop trying to go to war without the only protection we have. Our protection is the armor of God as spoken to us in Ephesians chapter 6 verses 13-17. 1 Peter 3:12 it tells us “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…” When we do not pray before we act, it is like we are telling God…”I got this one this time. Go and help someone else who really needs you.”

Ephesians chapter 6 verse 18 commands us to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…” When we learn to wait and pray, God will answer us and guide us in the right direction. So, whatever decision you need to make, simply cry out to the all powerful God and say, “For I have no power to face this vast army, this difficult task, this hardship that is attacking me right me. I do not know what to do, BUT my eyes are upon you, Lord!” So Lord, is it time to move?

Search myself and go deeper: What situation am I facing today? So far, how have I reacted? Is God pleased with my actions? I will devote this day to fasting and prayer. This will allow any loud voices to be silenced so I can hear only the Lord’s voice. As I pray, I ask that the Lord will open my ears to hear only Him, to touch my mind that I will only have thoughts that are pleasing to Him and that He will touch my mouth that I will only speak the words that He wants me to say.
