Have you ever noticed how some people dismiss the Bible as outdated or irrelevant? Others, claiming to follow Christ, use it to push their personal viewpoints, twisting its words to suit their agendas. This is done ignorantly, forgetting that the Bible isn’t about us at all. God’s word wasn’t written to validate our opinions or to serve as a weapon for arguments. It was written to reveal God—His heart, His plan, and His glory.
The Bible is not about you or me, but it does benefit us if we accept its truths. Too often, we approach Scripture looking for ourselves—seeking inspiration, solutions, or personal affirmation. But God’s word isn’t primarily a self-help book; it’s His story of redemption and glory. Everything in it points to Jesus, the Savior, and not to us.
To truly benefit from the Bible, we must have the right heart and viewpoint. Writing to Timothy, Paul pinned in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness.” The purpose of Scripture is to transform us into Christ’s likeness, not simply to make us feel good.
When we realize the Bible is about God’s glory and His redemptive plan, we can approach it with humility. Romans 11:36 reminds us, “For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” The Bible’s focus is on God—His power, purpose, and glory—not on us. Yet, by His grace, we are invited to know Him through His Word and to experience the blessings that come from living according to His truth. Let’s shift our focus to honoring Him in all we read and do.
