When tragedy happens many of us will have something to say. In certain situations we will voice our opinions, our concerns and hurts. Have you had those seasons where life keeps hitting you left and right and up and down? You do good but good does not come back to you. It seems like you just can’t catch a break. During those times, many of us can not even speak because the brokenness, the pain and the disappointment is so great. These are the times that will cause us to simply say, “Jesus”!
The word “Jesus” has meaning. It has power. The name of Jesus is connected with our risen Savior. He is the chosen, anointed one. Acts 4:12 proclaims, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” The name of Jesus was and is so powerful that in Mark 10:46-52 a blind man named Bartimaeus yelled, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” He kept calling Jesus’ name until he got his attention. My brother and sister, keep calling Jesus’ name until He responds.
The word “Jesus” brings comfort. In John 16:33, Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” When life continues to bring you trouble, take heart! Be encouraged by the word of God.
The word “Jesus” brings healing. The story of a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years is a perfect example of what Jesus can do. In Mark 5:25-34 it tells the story of how this woman had heard about Jesus. Something within her said, “If I can just get to Jesus I know I will be made whole.” How many of us need to be made whole? How many of us have been dealing with issues for a long time? Keep coming to Jesus. In verse 34, Jesus said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
We must keep believing that Jesus will heal. We must keep believing that this too shall pass. We must keep believing that Jesus is for us. At the end of the day, each of us must decide whose report will we believe. For me, I will keep calling on the name JESUS until He responds!
“Jesus” Prayer: Lord Jesus, I repent of my sin of unbelief. At times, Lord, I find it hard to keep believing that you are for me. My life does not always match up to what your word says. I am weak and tired. Help me! I repent of my impatience. Jesus when I take my eyes off of you, I see “other people” living their best life and I am struggling. Jesus, give me the strength to keep my eyes on you. Jesus, heal my broken heart and bind up my wounds. I look to you, Jesus, to do what only you can do. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
