In 1988, the mega company, Nike, branded a slogan that said, “Just Do It”. Michael Jordan became the face of Nike and their many advertisements. Nike wanted to get people excited about getting active. This slogan empowered the world to get up and take charge of their lives. It left no room for excuses. Well, did you know that Jesus pinned this slogan long before Nike had a thought about it? In John 8:28, Jesus talked about how he did not come to do his own will. He came to just do it: what the Father in Heaven wanted him to do.
I came to encourage you today to “Just Do It”. In this world, we face many decisions, temptations, tests, and trials. But as a Christian, I found that sometimes when I was faced with a decision of right or wrong or my way or God’s way, I would fall short numerous times. All is not lost. There is good news for us today.
The good news today is that you and I do not have to stay where we are. We can get up out of the pig’s pen of sin. We can decide today to give it all up for Christ; today you can say enough is enough; you are sick and tired of the same results. You can say to yourself, “It’s time for me to ‘Just Do It.'” Paul described this struggle with sin and the flesh beautifully in Romans chapter 7 verses 15; 17-19 when he said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate that is what I do. As it is, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out: For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil is what I keep on doing.”
You do not have to stay in the situation like Paul described to us. You can do what is right. You can just do the holy thing. You can just love your enemies. You can just forgive. Only with the power of the Holy Spirit working in you, you can “Just Do It”. I have learned and can testify that if you resist the devil he will flee from you as described in James 4:7.
When you deny yourself and stand firm against Satan’s temptation, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against the enemy and you will be able to stand for Christ and His ways. So, be encouraged today not to be like Mike but to be like Jesus and “Just Do It”!
