The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Do you ever get the sense or the thought that Jesus is tired of hearing about your problems? Does it ever seem as though you get tired of praying about the same thing over and over and over again? Our reminder, yes myself included, is to “Keep Coming”!

Jesus never said in Matthew 11 verses 28 and 29 only come to me one time and I will only give you rest just this one time. (“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29)

By way of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Paul never tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5 verse 17 to only pray one time. In fact, this scripture actually says to never stop praying. (“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17)

In our human frailties, anxieties, or frustrations, we must remember that Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT) tells us, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” Isaiah is emphasizing the vast difference between God’s wisdom and human understanding. It invites us to trust God’s plan, even when it doesn’t align with our own desires, expectations, our confusion, or what we currently see. The idea is that while we often think in limited, self-centered terms, our sovereign God’s perspective is significantly wiser, guided by His perfect knowledge of all things.

Each of us can be encouraged today to “Keep Coming” to the feet of Jesus.  Hebrews 4:16 encourages believers to approach God with confidence and assurance, not out of fear or hesitation. The “throne of grace” that the author of Hebrews is talking about symbolizes God’s authority and His readiness to dispense mercy and grace. Through Jesus, we have direct access to God, and we can “Keep Coming” to Him without fear of condemnation. (“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16)

“Keep Coming” because the God I serve is long suffering, gracious, and merciful according to Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 and 23, which speaks about God’s patience and mercy. (“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22 and 23)

From Psalm 34:15 to 1 Peter 3:12, no matter our past or present struggles, His love is unchanging, His arms are always open to receive us with grace and mercy, and His ears are attentive to our prayers. (“The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry.” Psalm 34:15) (“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”1 Peter 3:12)
