A house is a building for human habitation, especially one that is lived in by a family or small group of people. With today’s thought, I want you to relate your house to you. Who owns your house (dwelling place)? You do. Who pays the bills for your house? You do. In the Spiritual realm, your house is you. But who controls it? Do you try and control your day with human strength? Are you manipulating your family to get them to do what you want them to do? Who controls your spiritual house? Are you speaking whatever comes to your mind regardless of who it hurts? On today, I encourage you to “Let Him Run the House”.
Allow Jesus to run the house of your life. For you and me to “Let Him Run the House”, we must first surrender our lives to Jesus. Many times, our problem with our houses is that we do not trust Jesus with the whole thing. We tend to pick and choose what we want Jesus to control. However, James 4:10 reminds us to, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
“Let Him Run the House” of your heart. The heart is a tricky muscle that God created in us. With the help of the Holy Spirit, He will show us who is running it. While speaking to the children of Israel, Jeremiah spoke about the heart so that we can understand our need to surrender it to the Lord daily. Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”
“Let Him Run the House” of your mind. Our minds are a constant battleground for the enemy. 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us about our thoughts when it says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Then in Romans 8:6, Paul tells us, “So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
“Let Him Run the House” of your past. One of the biggest strongholds that the enemy entangles us with is our past and unforgiveness. Whether we refuse to forgive others or ourselves, that is a stronghold. It hinders Jesus from ruling all of our house. Paul emphasizes the importance of leaving our past behind. Philippians 3:12-14 says, “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
“Let Him Run the House” of your emotions. The book of Proverbs is full of rich wisdom. In the twenty-ninth chapter verse eleven it says about our emotions that, “Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.”
The only way you and I will be productive Christians is when we allow Jesus to run the whole house!
