The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Biblically, worship is the act of honoring and adoring God, recognizing His divine nature and deeds. It involves expressing love and submission through prayer, singing, obedience, service, and dedicating one’s life to Him. Worship is a vital response to God’s greatness and goodness in the Christian faith.

I want to highlight three reasons as to why Christians should live to worship Jesus. Well, He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Colossians 1:16 and 17 remind us, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Jesus is worthy of our worship because He is the Creator of the universe, and everything exists because of Him. As the sustainer of all life, He deserves our reverence and adoration.

Another reason for us to worship Jesus is the fact that He is our Savior and Redeemer. I love how John says this in Revelation 5:9, “And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.'”  This scripture is highlighting the fact that Jesus deserves our worship because He sacrificed His life to redeem humanity, offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe. His act of love and mercy compels us, as believers, to honor Him with our worship.

Finally, we live to worship Him because He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2 verses 9 to 11 that Jesus is exalted above all others, holding supreme authority as King of Kings. His lordship over all creation is a powerful reason for Christians to worship Him, recognizing His sovereign rule. (Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2 verses 9-11)

Remember, Jesus is seeking true worshippers who realize that He is the Truth of God. (“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)
