I used to be like the Energizer Bunny—always moving, always doing something, and never slowing down. Patience was not my strong suit, and I often tried to make things happen on my own timeline. But God, in His infinite patience and love, knew exactly how to get my attention. He closed doors I desperately wanted to open, removed people I thought I needed, and denied opportunities I was sure were meant for me. At the time, I couldn’t see it, but He was lovingly leading me to a place of rest in Him. Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11 verses 28 and 29 became so real to me: “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Slowly, I learned to open the door to His love and trust His timing, and in doing so, I discovered a rest that only He can give.
God’s rest isn’t just about physical stillness; it’s about a peace that fills your heart even in life’s storms. As 2 Thessalonians 3:16 reminds us, “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!” We must remember that peace is not dependent on our circumstances but on the presence of Jesus. No matter how weary or overwhelmed you and I feel, Jesus is calling us to rest in His loving arms. When we surrender our busyness and burdens to Him, we find the true rest our souls long for. Look to Him today, for He alone can give you lasting peace and rest.
