The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35). It’s easy to love those who treat us well, but the true test of Christ’s love in us is how we respond to those who don’t. I once trained a coworker who was rude, dismissive, and constantly unkind to me. Every part of me wanted to snap back or treat them the same way, but the love of Jesus in me wouldn’t let me. I had to pray—A LOT—and seek the Lord to keep my words in check. Instead of reacting, I chose obedience to Jesus—despite their behavior. Time passed, and they received a promotion. God put it on my heart to bless them with a small gift. That moment softened their heart, and for the first time, I saw both shock and gratitude in their eyes. Later, they admitted that my kindness had impacted them more than I would ever know.

The love of Jesus in us is a powerful testimony. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21). The world expects retaliation, but when we respond with grace, we reflect the heart of Christ. “Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14). Love is not just a feeling—it’s a choice, a discipline, and a mark of true discipleship. When we let go of pride, humble ourselves, and serve even those who don’t deserve it, we show the undeniable evidence of Jesus in us. Let’s be bold in love, even when it’s hard, because that is how the world will see Jesus through us.
