We all have friends. These are the people who we talk to on the phone, text, hang out together, tell them our concerns, hurts and disappointments. But I know of only one person who is “My Tried and True Friend” and His name is Jesus.
For me to say that He is “My Tried and True Friend” means that he loves me in spite of myself. He is my true friend because I am his sheep. In John 10:15-18, Jesus describes how he is the good shepherd. He laid down his life for the sheep. No man took his life from Him. I thank Him that I can approach the throne of grace and lay at His feet because He knows me.
When I stumble, make mistakes and sin, Jesus is there to correct me and not condemn me. He does not make me feel worse after I talk to Him. He corrects me and tells me to sin no more because He loves me. Jesus is the only one who keeps me from falling as describe in Jude chapter 1, verse 24.
Jesus is “My Tried and True Friend” because I have died to my will. In Isaiah 64:6, it reminds us, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteous are as filthy rags…” He paid my debt, your debt and I thank Him for proving himself to be “My Tried and True Friend”.
Search myself and go deeper: How has Jesus been “My Tried and True Friend”? Has Jesus shown to be trustworthy? He is forgiving and loving? On today, love on Jesus. I will not only tell Him how much I love Him and appreciate Him but I will show Him I love Him through my obedience.
