The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Rain is often disliked by many people due to the inconvenience it brings – wetness and the need for special gear. All the necessary items include an umbrella, rain boots, a raincoat/jacket, and other suitable clothing. It can be a disruption in our day when it rains or if there are storms. When I think about rain, I think about the words suffering, tribulations, a hard time or a difficult situation. Just like rain, when we are suffering due to sin and being in this world, it will require us to put on the appropriate clothing. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”  Just like rain will come, so will problems. Verse 13 of Ephesians chapter 6 tells us again, “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” In times of adversity, challenges, and setbacks, it is crucial to bear in mind this thought, “No Rain, No Flowers”.

Well, why do I say, “No Rain, No Flowers”? God has designed it where rain makes everything grow. Just like our suffering that we endure also helps us to grow in Christ. I love how James chapter 1 describes the benefit of rain, of suffering. Verses 2-4 says, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

If there is neither rain, discomfort, nor suffering present, it becomes impossible for God to manifest His greatness as the Lord and for us to grow. So be encouraged today and remember if there is no rain there cannot be any flowers.
