The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Life can throw challenges our way—pain, disappointment, distractions, sickness, or confusion—but as believers, we are called to follow the script: the inspired, God-breathed Word of God. (“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16) When life’s plot twists come, we stand firm by holding onto Scripture, allowing it to guide our thoughts, decisions, and faith. Yes, the script—God’s word—is the ultimate truth. It reminds us of His promises, strengthens us in trials, and keeps us anchored in Him. Let’s learn from three individuals in the New Testament who remained faithful to God’s plan, even in their most challenging moments.

Well, of course, we must look at Jesus. When He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He held onto the script. Satan attacked His identity and tried to lure Him with shortcuts to power and glory. Each time, Jesus responded with Scripture, showing us that God’s word is our weapon against temptation. He demonstrated reliance on the Father’s truth, not worldly solutions. (“But He answered and said, ‘It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4)

Acts chapters 6 and 7 tells us about Stephen, the first martyr, who boldly proclaimed God’s truth despite opposition. While being stoned, he held onto Scripture, quoting Psalm 31:5 and committing his spirit to God. His unwavering faith to the script serves as a reminder that God’s word sustains us, even in the face of death. (“Into Your hand I entrust my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth.” Psalm 31:5) (“But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55)

“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:6-7) Even while imprisoned and facing death, Paul stayed faithful to the script. He reflected on his life’s work, emphasizing perseverance in faith. Paul’s writings encourage us to trust in God’s promises and press forward with endurance, knowing that our faithfulness will be rewarded.

Whatever happens—suffering, detours, uncertainty, or fear—stay on script. Let Scripture be your guide, your comfort, and your strength. When we follow the script, we not only endure life’s trials but we glorify God through our faithfulness.
