The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

We often think of strength as something we must possess or develop, but the reality is that our human weakness can be a pathway to God’s power. As humans, we are limited, frail beings who often feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges. But the Apostle Paul teaches us that in our weakness, Christ’s power shines the brightest. We need to run to Jesus, the source of all strength, especially when we feel the most incapable.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 teaches us that God’s power is perfected in our weakness. In those moments when we feel the weakest, we can rely on God’s strength to carry us. (“And He has said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10) Jesus speaks to this truth in Matthew 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The phrase “poor in spirit” refers to a humility and recognition of one’s spiritual need and dependence on God. When we recognize our weakness and need for God, He comes through with His grace and strength.

When you feel weak, lean into Jesus for help. Prayer, Scripture, and worship are powerful tools that allow us to surrender our weakness to God. Romans 8:26 reminds us, “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and empowers us to endure.

In my own life I have experienced howGod’s strength was made perfect in my weakness because God has a way of highlighting His power and grace through our frailties. James 4:6 teaches, “But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, ‘God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’” Our humility before God opens the door for His grace to work in and through us; it is a sign to God that we need Him.

On today, look at your weakness as a pathway to God’s power. Pray for strength, knowing that God sees your struggles and offers His grace to sustain you.
