The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

The word surely is defined as emphasizing a speaker’s firm belief that what they are saying is true. When someone is retelling a story, they will often restate what happened without any doubt. If I were to ask you what you know for sure, what would you say? Would you say that you know your skin color for sure? Some people may even say that they know their family loves them for sure. On today, I want you to know that “Surely” you can depend on Jesus!

“Surely”, the Word of God can be trusted! I can testify that in my scariest, darkest, and most hurtful moments in life, God’s Word was a comfort to me. Psalm 28 authored by David is said to be written toward the end of his life. Like me, David faced many valley experiences, but he knew he could trust in the name of the Lord. David said in verse 7, “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.”

“Surely”, Jesus will rescue me like He did Paul! Who was Paul? Well, his birth name was Saul. In his training and upbringing as both a Jew and Roman citizen, his zealous, holier than thou efforts led him to harass the Christians in Jerusalem. But in 1 Corinthians 15:9 Paul confesses, “For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.” You see, like Paul, we all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (see Romans 3:23). But Paul had a “Surely” mentality. Paul knew the immense truth in the redemption power that he found in Jesus and in Him alone.

Maybe you are not sure today about Jesus. Maybe you’ve been let down, beat up on, and disappointed by so call “Christians” or just by life in general. This thought is meant to remind you that Jesus never encountered anyone that He turned away and did not help. I encourage you to run to Jesus because “Surely” He is the only way to true life!

“Surely” Prayer: Most Gracious, Heavenly Father, I come to you as a broken and sinful person. I do not have a sound mind. I am confused. I have been depressed. I feel alone like no one understands me. But, if what I hear and read about you are true, I want to know you! Surely, I want that living water that I heard about. Surely, I want that peace that passes all understanding. Surely, I want everlasting life that can only be obtained by confessing and knowing you…the only true and living Son of God! Jesus, I surrender my life and all my problems at your feet because Surely you can do it for me as you’ve done it for others. In your name, I pray. Amen.
