The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Can you imagine waking up one morning to find every blessing in your life—your home, your family, your health, even the breath in your lungs—has vanished. In your distress, you cry out to Jesus, and suddenly, all is restored. Now, picture the overwhelming gratitude flooding your heart; that ugly cry! Wouldn’t your thankfulness drive you to honor Him, seek His voice, and live in obedience to His will? But why wait for such a dramatic wake-up call? Thank God that Jesus has already given us every spiritual blessing in Him according to Ephesians 1:3. Gratitude for His incredible gifts should transform the way we live daily. (“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3)

Thankfulness leads us to worship Him. When we recognize the depth of what Jesus has done for us—His sacrifice on the cross, His victory over death, and the eternal hope He provides—our natural response should be worship. Hebrews 13:15 urges us by saying, “Through Him then, let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips praising His name.” Worship is the outpouring of a thankful heart. It acknowledges Jesus as the source of all good things and as the One worthy of all glory and honor.

Thankfulness leads us to read His word. Gratitude for Jesus also fuels a hunger to know Him more deeply, and the primary way we know Him is through Scripture. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” When we are thankful for Jesus, we desire to hear His voice, to commune with Him and to understand His heart. The Bible reveals His character, His promises, and His will for our lives, helping us live in alignment with Him.

Thankfulness leads us to obey Him. True thankfulness doesn’t stop with words-not lust lip service; it is demonstrated through action. I am always drawn to what Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” Obedience is the ultimate expression of our gratitude. It shows that we value His lordship in our lives and trust His ways above our own. When we obey Him, we reflect our appreciation for His sacrifice and align ourselves with His perfect plan.

So, let your thankfulness to Jesus not merely reside in your heart but overflow into worship, where you throw yourself into His Word, and the overflowing of thankfulness compels you to obedience, for in doing so, you will discover the fullness of joy and peace that only Jesus can provide.
