I want to remind us today to evaluate our trust and faith in God in the context of our relationship with Him. So, do you trust God but only in certain situations? When pressed with the cares of this world, do you find yourself questioning God’s ability to fight for you? Are you only seeking God when you need Him? As we put a spotlight on ourselves, I need us to know today that our God has a proven track record, and He is “The God Who Can Do It”.
Since we are talking about evaluating ourselves, David reminds us about this in Psalm 139 verses 23 and 24. David said, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” You and I should be in constant “search me” mode. For example, searching ourselves by asking simple questions like: am I looking at this problem through the lens of Scripture? Do I have the right attitude? Are my ears attentive to the Holy Spirit? Are there any known sins in my life that I have not addressed? It is so easy for us to get in our feelings, misquote Scripture, to bend certain Scriptures to fit our situation, and/or get caught up in the worldly trends that lead us to no way like “name it and claim it”.
Because we have the validity of Scripture, you and I cannot allow our life circumstances to dictate our relationship with God. From Genesis to Revelation, these books are full of trust and faith scriptures that we can lean into for encouragement and as reminders of God’s faithfulness. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” So, in order to keep our faith in God, we should surrender our circumstances, whether they are favorable or unfavorable in the hands of “The God Who Can Do It”.
