The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

The word pretty is described as pleasing to the eye, attractive in an elegant, graceful way, fine, good, and nice. Truth be told, we all like pretty things. Some of us may even describe ourselves as being pretty. The kind of people I am talking about does not like to get their clothes dirty. They’re uneasy or bothered if they look a certain way. They are not the first in line to work at labor intense jobs. These kinds of people are concerned with how people view them. Well, a life that is submitted to Christ ain’t for the pretty people.

Mark chapter 5 describes a woman with an issue of blood who crawled her way to Jesus. According to custom, this woman was considered unclean. If she was caught in public, she would be stoned to death. However, she went to Jesus anyway knowing that if she could just touch the edge of his garment, she could receive her healing. This act of desperation ain’t for the pretty people.

1 Peter 5:5 tells us to be clothed with humility for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Those who are proud will not surrender their lives to Christ; they are too concerned with the opinions of others. They are self-centered. The proud desires to fit in with the world. They are too worried about being talked about- true humility ain’t for the pretty people.

In Daniel chapter 3, we all know the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These young men refused to bow and worship a golden image and therefore were thrown into a fiery furnace. We all know those pretty people do not want to get their clothes dirty let alone get burnt up. This act of standing up for Christ no matter what it cost ain’t for the pretty people.

You see, a life lived for Jesus is for the people who are soldiers because we are in war. The sold out for Jesus followers will crawl their way through any situation with dirt on their clothes, hadn’t shaved in weeks, limping, hungry, wounded, hair messed up, no shoes on, heartbroken, hadn’t eaten in days, and their lives are in shambles. The people who are sold out for Jesus have a determination to do whatever it takes to live for Him.

Only soldiers need to apply ’cause being a Christian ain’t for the pretty people!
