The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Back in the pioneer days when it was time to cook, the women would go out to gather the food. One place they would go to collect food would be called the hen house. With a basket in hand, they would carefully pick up and place the eggs in the basket.

Well today, the basket represents Jesus. The eggs represent you and me. These eggs also represent your issues, your faith, your job, your heart, your children, your current situation, your spouse and your life. So today, “Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket”.

We have a trust issue when it comes to Jesus. We trust him to wake us up in the morning, but not to heal us. We trust him that the sun will shine every morning, but we don’t trust him to make our enemies behave.

Why should you “Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket”?

“Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket” because Jesus is your helper. Psalms 46:1 declares, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

“Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket” because Jesus is your peace. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusts in Him.”

“Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket” because Jesus is your protector. Psalms 84:11 declares, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield…”

“Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket” because Jesus is trustworthy. Jeremiah 29:11 promises you and me that, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Doubt is a powerful force that can cripple your trust and belief in Jesus. It hinders what He can do (see Mark 6:1-6). Believe me when I say that God is trustworthy. God is faithful. God cannot lie. God watches over His word to perform it. So regardless of what level of trust you had with God before today….though the eggs may break, though the eggs may crack, though the eggs may even be discarded, trust Jesus anyway that He has you and “Throw All Your Eggs in the Basket”.

Search myself and go deeper: What eggs in my life represent my issues, my dilemmas and my current situation? I will find a scripture about each of my “eggs” and memorize them. Doing this in conjunction with prayer, will strengthen my faith and trust in Jesus.
