When you hear the word faithful, what comes to your mind? Loyalty, reliability, dedication or maybe perseverance. As followers of Jesus, He requires us to be faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 in the ESV translation says, “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”
Now, faithfulness is not always about the big trials or tests that we encounter in life. It is often tested in the small, everyday moments. Jesus teaches that being faithful in minor responsibilities is a sign that someone can be trusted with more. A life of faithfulness to Jesus starts with integrity in the smallest details as Jesus described in Luke 16:10. (“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Luke 16:10)
When I think about faith and being faithful, my mind thinks about Hebrews 10:23. The writer reminds us, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” We are being encouraged to remain faithful to Jesus by holding on to the hope we have in Him. If we don’t have Jesus, then we don’t have anything to hold on to. Our faithfulness involves trusting in God’s promises and not wavering in our commitment to follow Jesus, even when challenges arise. God’s faithfulness to His promises is what motivates us to remain steadfast in our walk with Christ.
To be found faithful is to persevere. Remaining steadfast in our faith, even during trials, shows our loyalty to Jesus. We don’t throw in the towel because we are having a bad day, a bad week, month, or year. James 1:12 reminds us, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” So, we can see through Scripture that perseverance in the face of challenges is a mark of true faithfulness.
How can we actively embrace this thought, “To Be Found Faithful”? With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do this by staying committed to our faith in Jesus, persevering through our tribulations, and trusting in God’s promise to honor those who remain faithful to Him.
