Do you have history with God? By this, I mean, has God helped you when you were facing difficult situations? Did He rescue you from those challenging circumstances? Has God consistently fulfilled His promises to you? Have you witnessed God’s grace and mercy guiding you? Well, if you responded yes to any of these questions, then you have history with God.
When we acknowledge that we have history with God, we are saying that we trust Him. Living out Proverbs 3:5 demonstrates our history with God. It says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” Do you trust Him enough to get out to the boat like Peter did in Matthew 14:29? Do you trust Him even though you may be fearful like Gideon was in Judges 6:12 and 15?
Therefore, the question arises, how can we fully place our trust in Jesus? Here is the strategy:
First, it is necessary for us to engage in prayer. Colossians 4:2 reminds us to, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
Then, it is vital that we read God’s Word. This will build our confidence in Him. It will remind us of His past victories. Psalm 119:11 reminds us by saying, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
Furthermore, it is imperative that we express our admiration and devotion towards Him. Psalm 16:11 in the ESV says, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Finally, simply repeat this process.
Our life must be postured towards placing our trust in Jesus, not just based on past triumphs, but also in the face of uncertainty.
