As representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ, it means that each of us should take on His character, His ways, and His thoughts. What is the purpose of you and me still living our own lives, adhering to our own thoughts, living for ourselves yet calling ourselves, Christians? When I was growing up, people would always say, “Well, if it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and walks like a duck, then it’s a duck.” When you and I do not choose to walk in Jesus, we are saying that He is incapable of, not qualified to, or is not able to accomplish anything. So, I am here to remind you to “Walk in Him”.
So, how can we apply the principle of this thought, “Walk in Him” in our daily lives? Well, Colossians chapter 2 verses 6 and 7 reminds us, “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Verse 6 begins by reminding believers to remain steadfast in their faith. This means that we are to stay committed, be rooted to living according to God’s word which is His teachings and following His examples, making Him the priority in our lives.
Then, letting your “roots grow down into him” suggests that we can deepen our relationship with Him. But how? By partnering with the Holy Spirit to engage in daily prayer, studying the Word, and worshiping Him. All of these things will cultivate a closer relationship with Jesus.
Finally, as we “Walk in Him”, our faith becomes stronger. Growing our faith through a deeper understanding of God’s biblical truths will lead to a life filled with gratefulness for His guidance, mercy, and blessings.
These verses from Colossians remind us to stay rooted in Jesus, the true vine, where He produces lasting spiritual fruit and fulfills our purpose. (“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5)
