The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Biblical love, according to the Bible, is an unconditional, self-sacrificing commitment that seeks the highest good of others and reflects God’s own nature and actions toward humanity.

We can see how God loves us not only through His sacrificial act of sending His Son, Jesus, for our salvation, but in how Jesus demonstrated selfless service by performing acts of humility and kindness. (“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45)

As believers in Jesus, we can implement this God kind of love by recognizing our Identity. 1 John 3:1 says, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” This verse reveals God’s immense love, making us His children, though the world often doesn’t recognize this truth.

So, what is love? It is an expression of selfless love.  By following Jesus’ model of selfless service to others and prioritizing their needs above our own, we can embody the principles outlined in 1 John 3:16 that says, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”

Finally, the God kind of love is one that reflects His character. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7)

So, what is love? Love is truth. Christians show love by sharing the truth of the Gospel, pointing others to Jesus for reconciliation with God.
