The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

In the previous post (see part 1 of “What is Your View?”), I talked about self-examination, surrendering, and being a doer of God’s Word.  As a Christian, you and I are called to have a biblical worldview which means to live our lives as laid out in Scripture. So, how do we live this life with a biblical worldview? When we realize that we have had a worldly view, how do you and I start over?

Today, we will look at 5 steps that you and I can start TODAY living our lives with a biblical worldview.

  • First, you must EXAMINE yourself. In order for us to determine if there is a problem or an error with something, we have to investigate it. When we look at Scripture, David shows us how. It says in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
  • Step 2 is REPENT. Repentance in the Bible means a change of mind or attitude that involves remorse and sorrow for sin, which is the transgression of God’s laws. 1 John 1:8-9, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
  • Then we must READ AND STUDY GOD’S WORD. If we don’t know God’s Word, then how can we have a biblical worldview? 2 Timothy 2:15 reminds us, “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”
  • After we study God’s Word which will guide us in the way to go, how to live, and how to think about a particular matter, we must PRAY. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 simply tells us to pray without ceasing. You and I should pray about EVERYTHING!
  • Finally, we must LIVE IT OUT. Allow the Holy Spirit to do the work. You simply must yield to Him. Our lives should be bent towards God’s will. Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:25, “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” I love the NIV translation that says “keep in step with the Spirit.”

Daily, you and I should examine ourselves, repent of any known or unknown sins, read God’s Word, pray, and then live it out! When we do our part, we can trust God to honor His Word and do His part!

LET’S PRAY: Lord, we come to you as humble as we know how acknowledging that we have sinned; we have messed up! We have chosen a worldview over your Word. Lord, forgive us. As we turn back to you, give us the strength to boldly stand on your Word! Guide us to Your Will. Give us a desire for the truth of Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
