The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

I am a firm believer in being true not only to yourself and God but be authentic with other people. So, today, I want to talk about myself first. The enemy of my soul, Satan, started attacking me at an early age. I had low self-esteem, was not confident, didn’t feel loved or pretty, and I had a speech impediment. All those issues turned into me looking for love in all the wrong places instead of accepting Christ’s love.  I was disobedient and unfaithful to God. I was trying to do my own thing because “everyone else” was doing it and it seemed to work for them. The reality is that I was wrong because I refused to live my life God’s way. In the end, when I came to myself (like the Prodigal Son), I was at a place of complete surrender.

I didn’t have a good, solid grasp of who I was in Jesus. I had the world’s identity and not the one that God gave me. If you and I profess to be Christians-to be a follower of Christ, then we must live our lives as laid out in Scripture. This is called a biblical worldview.

I read a disturbing article that said over 69% of Americans identify as Christians. You would think that was a good thing. Yet only 4% of them have a biblical worldview. WHAT?! This means that 65% of Christians do not live their lives through the lens of God’s Word.

Let’s talk about you. It’s time for you to examine yourself. What is your identity? Do you place more value on how you look, your job status, what the world says, your family name, your skin color, money, or earthly possessions more than you do on God’s Word?

When we look at Scripture, we will find James 1:22. It says, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” So, what does this mean? Let’s look at a few examples.

Example #1: Someone has hurt you deeply. The world view is to hold on to the grudge of unforgiveness. Do not forgive them. Stay angry and allow resentment to sip in. However, the biblical worldview not only says to pray for those who misuse you but to forgive them so you too can be forgiven. (See scriptures: Ephesians 4:32, Luke 6:28, Mark 11:25, and Matthew 6:15)

THE BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW IS: We must forgive!

Example #2: Do you agree with homosexuality and the LGBTQIA+ community? You think it’s ok because everyone deserves to be loved; whatever you feel, which is what the world says! However, the biblical worldview in the New Testament is found in Romans 1:25-27. The main point in these scriptures tell us that the men and women turned against the natural way to have sex and indulged in sex with each other.

THE BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW IS: Homosexuality is a sin!

There are countless examples that we can use to search ourselves and see if we have a world or a biblical view on various topics. You and I must be governed by God’s Word. Unfortunately, anyone can talk a good game. We can talk like a “Christian”. But it is how you live that matters. We are called to put our faith in action-to be a doer of God’s Word.

Let’s Pray: Lord, your Word is so precious. You said that Heaven and Earth will pass away but YOUR WORD will remain! Your Word is TRUTH! Allow whoever is reading this thought to repent of their worldview and seek you. Jesus, give us the holy boldness and strength to stand on your Word and your standards. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
