The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

I want you to imagine the boat as your life for the purpose of our thought today. If we think about our boat being on the water, what is bound to happen? Yep, you guessed it: there will eventually be a storm. When the winds of our lives begin to blow, it is easy for us to become preoccupied, distracted, and even fearful about our current circumstances. But I want to encourage you that we can have the peace of Jesus when He is on the boat with us.

The word “peace” may conjure up certain images in your mind. Worry. No pain. Stillness. One of my favorite scriptures on peace is found in Colossians chapter 3 verse 15. The first part of that verse gives us a command, “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.…” The Greek word “rule” simple means to umpire. So, in other words peace should be our umpire. An umpire is someone who announces or calls how things are. We should allow the peace of Jesus to make the call in our lives. When you and I turn our eyes away from the storms of life and focus on Jesus, that is where we find safety. Therefore, take heart today, because Jesus is on the boat!
