The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

In almost any sport you watch on TV there are teams playing against each other. We all have our favorites- Lakers, Cavs, Bears, Saints, Red Sox, Cubs, Kansas or Kentucky. There will always be a side to choose, a team to pick or someone to root for. But, choose your team very carefully.

In the game of life, there are only two choices, two teams or two sides. The obvious team is God’s team and the other is Satan’s team. We all must choose. Jesus said in Matthew 12:30, “He who is not with me is against me…”

When choosing a team you must look at what the team has to offer you: their benefits, the perks, the good stuff. On God’s team, the ultimate perk is salvation; a rescue from the penalty of our sins. Acts 4: 11-12 says, “Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” In addition if you are on God’s team, there is healing and freedom. Isaiah 61:1 states, “He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” On God’s team, there is peace. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says, “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” On God’s team, there is safety, strength and deliverance. Psalm 18:2 reminds us, “The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower.”

The word of God says in Psalm 95:7 and 8, “Today, if you hear my voice, do not harden your hearts…” So, do not despair if you are on the wrong team; do not think all is lost if before today, this morning or even a minute ago you have been on Satan’s team/the world’s team. Today is your day! There is open enrollment and you can be traded from Satan’s team to God’s team. So, whose team are you on?

Search myself and go deeper: Whose team am I on? If I’m on the world’s team, I know that this choice will lead me to destruction/hell so I need to repent and surrender my life to Jesus. If I’m on God’s team, does my life line up with His word and His ways? If I have strayed away from God’s standards, I will repent for God makes all things new. If I’m on God’s team, I will pray that my life will always be at a place of surrender to the One who ransomed me!
