As we are continuing to maneuver the paths of life, it will be crucial for each believer to not be moved by the lies of the culture, people, or the enemy of our souls. Paul was warning the Galatians about not turning away and believing a different Gospel. Chapter 1 verses 6 to 8 says this, “I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News but is not the Good News at all. You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ. Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you.” Since God has called us to himself, Paul is reminding the Galatians as well as us not to follow a different gospel, a different way. In our culture, many Christians are being fooled, tricked, and bamboozled not only by sinners but by those in the church who are deliberately twisting the truth concerning Christ as verse 7 says. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we are called to be strong in the Lord as Ephesians 6:10 tells us. If you and I realize that we need help in the discernment department, we need to call on James 1:5 that tells us that if we need wisdom to ask God for it.
It is time out for us not to know the depths of God’s Word. We have the power of the Holy Spirit living within us. He is well able to keep us, guide us, speak for us, to teach us, and give us understanding. Therefore, “Don’t Turn” because Hebrews chapter 10 verses 35 through 39 gives us the nail in the coffin concerning this thought. Verse 35 says, “Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.” This means you and I cannot relapse, revert back into the old me, the old you. We must press on toward the goal as Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:14. Then verse 36 says, “For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” So, the writer of Hebrews is saying that God already saw this day. He already knew you would need endurance, which means to continue in the face of difficulty. When we look at verses 37 and 38, they tell us, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” Here it is! Our warning and confirmation of the thought, “Don’t Turn”. If we shrink back, we are not trusting and placing our full weight on the Good News of the Gospel. So, when we look at verse 39, it states, “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.” This is a confident saying that we, the true believers in Jesus, are not those who shrink back, who turn away, or who cower in the face of opposition. So, the next time you are pressed by the culture, lean into God who will keep you by His mighty power.
