The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

What if a shift in your perspective could lead you to see God’s purpose more clearly, just like the blind man in John 9, who received not only his sight but a whole new understanding of who Jesus was?

There are three ways believers can change their perspective. First, focus on God’s purpose over your circumstances. In John 9:3, Jesus explains that the man’s blindness was not a result of sin but so that God’s works might be displayed. Challenges are not always punishments but opportunities for God’s glory. Instead of fixating on the problem, ask, “How can God work through this?” Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things, good, bad, or the ugly, work together for our good because we love God and are called according to His purpose. (“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28)

Second, embrace Spirit-led faith over legalism. In John 9, the Pharisees’ legalism caused them to miss the miracle of God. Legalism focuses on strict adherence to rules, often leading to judgment rather than compassion. A change in perspective requires listening to the Holy Spirit, seeing God’s work in unexpected ways, and prioritizing grace over rigid rules. (“Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, ‘This man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.’” John 9:16)

Finally, be willing to testify about what God has done. In John 9:26-27, the healed man boldly shared his testimony despite opposition. Changing your perspective involves confidently sharing your experiences, which strengthens your faith and helps others see God’s power. (“So they said to him again, ‘What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?’ He answered them, ‘I told you already, and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again?’” John 9:26-27)

Through prayer and the Holy Spirit, we can renew our minds, allowing us to see life from God’s perspective, as Paul says in Romans 12:2. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and reveal God’s grace and purpose in every situation. (‘Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.’)
