Imagine you have been put in jail because of your sins. The bailiff comes in and says, “You’ve Posted Bail”. Of course, being joyful, you are still puzzled. So, you ask, “How is this possible?” “Who would pay this debt?” The bailiff smiles and says, “Jesus!”
Everyone who has been born has been in a spiritual jail and could not get out on their own. You may wonder why would this man name Jesus do this? Well, several reasons. Some may say love. Others may say obedience to His Father. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
We must not allow Satan to make us think we must do something miraculous to be saved or accept this gift. The enemy of our souls will have us think that we must get ourselves “right” before we surrender to Jesus. He may deceive you into thinking that you must have your life in order first, be your authentic self, tell you that you still have time to do your own thing, or that you need to sow all your wild oaks first. These are all lies!
Each of us has been or are right now like Paul described in Romans 2:5-7. It says, “But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers.”
When you and I accept the finished work, our posted bail, Jesus will live in us and give us a new life.
